While all eyelash extensions can really highlight your eyes, volume lashes go above and beyond. They add so much drama and pizzazz to your eyes, really opening them up and calling attention to them. You do, however, need to take good care of your volume lashes if you want them to stay looking sharp. Here are some tips to help you better care for them between appointments.
Use a foaming lash cleaner
With volume lashes, you don't want to use any sort of wash that requires you to rub the lashes or even put pressure on them. Doing so can compact the lashes, making them look less voluminous. So, look for a foaming lash cleaner. Typically, you apply this formula and just let it sit for a few seconds before gently wiping it away. There's no harsh rubbing or scrubbing involved. Also, make sure you use a soft piece of cotton or gauze to wipe away the product. A rough washcloth could tear at the eyelash extensions or fray them.
Don't use mascara
Mascara can be great for adding volume to lashes, but with volume lashes, you really should not need it. And applying it creates friction between the lashes along with giving you something you later have to remove. Each time you have to clean the lashes, you risk compacting them. If you find yourself reaching for mascara even though you are wearing volume lashes, then talk to your stylist about using darker or fuller lashes next time.
Sleep on a silk pillowcase
A pillowcase made from cotton can create friction against the eyelash extensions. This is a problem with all eyelash extensions, but especially so with volume lashes since they tend to reach further out from the face and have more contact with the pillowcase. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase can really help. The eyelashes will gently brush over the silk, rather than getting caught on it. Many salons actually sell silk pillowcases that you can buy when you stop in to have your eyelashes done. You might want to buy two so that you can wash your pillowcase regularly and have a spare to use while it's drying. It only takes one night of sleeping on cotton to compact your volume lashes.
If you follow the tips above, your volume lashes should stay bold and beautiful for a long time to come. Reach out to your stylist if you have any additional questions about their care and longevity.
